Why You Need To Have A GOOD (Get Out Of Dodge) Plan

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or have already retreated to your get out of dodge plan), you know that 2020 has thrown some curveballs to the general public.

Preppers are sitting pretty, although it’s possible that income streams have been interrupted as state economies closed. So as we weather the storm that is 2020, now is a good time to ask: do you have a Plan B mapped out?

What Is A Get Out of Dodge Plan?

Plan B refers to a back-up plan when Plan A, or your current way of life, is not sustainable due to society crumbling. Year 2020 has all of the elements that could tip the scales and lead to TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It): a pandemic, economic collapse, civil unrest, calls to disband police and empty prisons, and an election that citizens feel decides our fate.

A good get out of dodge plan will be realistic and executable. It will remove you and your family from harm’s way and include supplies for when you arrive. Plan B doesn’t rely on the government or utilities because neither may be available to you in the foreseeable future.

So what will you need to consider when creating your get out of dodge plan? Be organized in your approach, and you’ll find yourself well prepared to start your new life.

1. Decide Where You Are Going

Your main goal should be to get away from large cities and FEMA camps. You’ll want to be somewhere that is remote but also somewhere you can access within a few hours’ time so that travel to the location does not become a burden (or impossible).

Do not rely on air travel to reach your Plan B shelter and know more than one route to get there.

When selecting your survival shelter, consider:

• Can you live there for at least a year?
• Does it have a renewable power source (solar, wind, hydro)?
• Is the land suitable for farming?
• Can you protect the shelter?
• Can you store and secure your necessities there?

Ideally, you will keep a year’s supply of food, water, medical supplies, and survival gear in your shelter so that you don’t have to bring all of that with you when/if you’re leaving in a hurry.

2. Determine When to Leave

TEOTWAWKI may sound like a permanent situation, but it is certainly possible for a new society to rise from the ashes of the old one. It will just take time. By exiting the collapse of the current society, your goal should be to survive until you can comfortably re-enter the new society.

But how do you determine that it is time to exit? This is a hard question because you don’t want to leave too late when conditions have already deteriorated and there are physical roadblocks keeping you from your survival shelter. You also don’t want to leave too early and live a much more difficult life than you needed to.

The main events that you should be watching for are:

• Power Grid Down/EMP attack
• Full Economic Collapse
• Pandemic/Plague
• Civil Unrest

Watch for signs that your life is going to be impacted severely and for a long time. If your family’s health or safety is in danger, remove them from the threat.

3. Pack Smart

Ideally, you’ve stocked your survival shelter fully, and you can quickly load up your car and leave town. You’ll want to bring:

• Guns & Ammunition
• First Aid/Medical Supplies/Prescription Medications
• Nonperishable Food
• Generator & Fuel
• Camping Gear including Sleeping Bags
• Clothing
• Tools
• Linens & Towels
• Books

Once you’re settled at your shelter, it’s imperative that you keep your mind and body strong. Exercise regularly, read books, and communicate with your family. Start your garden and get comfortable. You’ll be here for a while.
